Aspirin-hydrogel ocular film for topical delivery and ophthalmic anti-inflammation

Ocular drug delivery in hydrogel forming film form has several benefits over conventional dosage forms. An ophthalmic anti-inflammation study was undertaken using topically applied aspirin a formulation. A hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) matrix formulation prepared by the solvent casting and evaporation technique taking triethanolamine (TEA) as plasticizer. Ex vivo corneal permeation well anti-inflammatory potential of studied on carrageenan induced rabbit eye model. Moisture uptake found to be range 17.1 19.1 % for all formulations. The with higher HPMC content exhibited both increased moisture amount swelling. Among formulations, swelling order increase increasing film. Presence polymer sustained release more than 6 h controlled process diffusion mechanism. signs acute inflammation inhibited completely within just 2 placing whilst positive control continued showing redness tear secretion. Aspirin ocular could utilized an extended period time better patient compliance.
